In Russia, in September 2026, the number of car loans issued decreased by 13.3% to 102.4 thousand, compared to the same month in 2025 (118.1 thousand). This was reported by the press service of the National Bureau of Credit Histories (NBCH), citing data from credit organizations.
The volume of car loans issued in the first month of autumn also decreased by 4.9% compared to August 2026. In September, most such transactions were made in Moscow (7.05 thousand), Moscow Oblast (6.26 thousand), Tatarstan (5.63 thousand), St. Petersburg (4.79 thousand), and Bashkiria (3.89 thousand).
Experts recorded a significant decline in the number of issued loans in Krasnodar Krai (-25.2%), Chuvashia (-24.8%), Perm Krai (-24.2%), Kirov Oblast (-20.7%), and Stavropol Krai (-20.2%). However, in two regions of the country, demand for car loans increased — in Omsk Oblast (+13.4%) and Krasnoyarsk Krai (+2.7%).
Over the past six months, car loan issuance has stabilized at a rather low level — about 100 thousand per month.
Volkov reminded that in September 2024, credit organizations issued 1.7 times more car loans (170.2 thousand) than in the previous month. In his opinion, this is due to several reasons. Firstly, Russians are not willing to take out new loans due to high interest rates. Secondly, car prices continue to rise. In addition, banks are reluctant to take risks and grant loans to individuals they consider unreliable borrowers.
