Researchers from Dorzhi Banzarov Buryat State University have developed a method for obtaining cynaroside — a substance from Rhaponticum uniflorum, which grows in the region. In preclinical studies, the compound showed anxiolytic effects and the ability to support cognitive functions.
According to the university, experiments revealed anti-amnesic and neuroprotective properties of the substance. It also contributed to the formation of adaptive reflexes and reduced aggression.
The use of local plant raw materials can reduce dependence on imported components and lower production costs. Scientists note that the technology for obtaining cynaroside involves few stages and is potentially suitable for industrial scaling.
The development is currently at the patent application stage. The next step should be the creation of a medicinal product. Researchers are also considering the release of a biologically active supplement for people experiencing chronic stress, elderly people with memory impairments, and students during periods of intense academic workload.
