The Sollers company has showcased the new Sollers S9 SUV, whose production has been organized in Ulyanovsk. The car was photographed next to the UAZ Patriot — the joint shot allows for a comparison of the sizes of the two flagship SUVs. The image was published on the automaker's official Telegram channel.
The photo was taken during a visit by representatives of the regional branches of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP) of the Volga Federal District to the industrial site in Ulyanovsk. The delegation familiarized themselves with the production potential and sought promising areas for cooperation. RSPP representatives visited the production of passive safety system components, the Shtampovye Tekhnologii site, and the main UAZ conveyor.
Serial production of the S9 began in September at the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant facilities. The model is based on the Sollers ST9 pickup truck — a licensed version of the Chinese JAC T9. The first units will be delivered to dealers in December. Buyers will be offered gasoline and diesel engines paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The body, power units, elements of safety systems, electronics, and interior parts will be produced in Russia.
The Sollers S9 challenges the Patriot on its own turf — full-size frame SUVs. The joint photo is not accidental: the manufacturer is showing a direct competitor. But the price has not yet been announced, and it is precisely this that will decide the outcome of the struggle.
From 2022–2027, Sollers will invest over 38 billion rubles in production, of which more than 18 billion will go to the UAZ site in Ulyanovsk.
