Russian jet-powered attack drones "Geran-5" for the first time flew at a speed of 800 km/h. These figures were cited by military expert Sergey Lebedev.
According to him, the maximum speed indicated for this type of aircraft was about 600 km/h.
At a speed of about 800 km/h, the "Geran-5" in this parameter approaches some subsonic air-launched cruise missiles, while retaining the advantages of an unmanned platform in terms of cost and the possibility of mass application.
Lebedev explained that for air defense, this means a reduction in the time from detection to approach to the target. The higher the speed, the less time remains for interception.
At the same time, Lebedev did not rule out that Russia has another, faster modification of "Gerans", which is still being attributed to the already known type of drones.
