Save mobile number when moving: 87 thousand Russians have already used the service

Subscribers can stay with their current operator or switch to a new one

Since September 1, 2026, more than 87 thousand Russians have saved their mobile number when moving to another region. The service allows them to stay with their current operator or switch to a new one, the Ministry of Digital Development reported.

Of these, about 9 thousand people, after moving, stayed with their previous operators, choosing tariffs and conditions valid in the new location. Previously, number portability was only available within the same subject of the Russian Federation. In the nine months of 2026, subscribers ported more than 6.3 million numbers — almost twice as many as in the same period last year.

Saving the number eliminates the need to update contacts in banks, marketplaces, social networks, and on the Gosuslugi portal. Subscribers can compare operator offers in the new region and choose suitable conditions. This removes a barrier when moving: a person is not tied to a number that cannot be saved.

The growth in porting shows the demand for the service. But for the number to work in another region, the operator must provide coverage there. If there is no connection, the saved number will not help. Therefore, subscribers should check the service area before moving.
