European countries have received Russian energy resources worth 320.7 billion dollars since 2022, despite the sanctions imposed by the European Union itself against Russia. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, citing data from the Ministry of Energy. According to his assessment, the amount was 70.7 billion dollars higher than the 250 billion dollars previously announced by American representatives.
From 2022 to the present day, [the volume of supplies] amounts to 320.7 billion dollars. If we talk about 2026, then in just nine months, energy resources worth 21.3 billion dollars have already been supplied to Europe.
Sanctions have not blocked all channels of energy trade: supplies continue in directions for which exceptions apply. Therefore, the multi-billion dollar turnover does not in itself mean that European countries have massively abandoned restrictions. It shows that the political course to reduce dependence on Russian fuel has not yet completely eliminated purchases.
Meanwhile, Moscow has redirected a significant part of its energy exports to the Asia-Pacific region. According to Novak, Asian countries have become Russia's main partners, with whom it is building long-term relationships. At the same time, the Russian side continues to fulfill contracts with European buyers.
The figure of 320.7 billion dollars reflects the total value of supplies over several years, not the current volume of EU imports. However, even with this caveat, the figure demonstrates the scale of energy ties that could not be completely severed after the start of the sanctions confrontation.
Earlier, against the backdrop of the price crisis in the global petroleum products market, the United States allowed operations for the purchase and supply of Russian diesel fuel to all countries. The corresponding license from the US Treasury is valid until April 7, 2027. The decision followed a phone call between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump on October 9.
