The research vessel (NIS) "Anatoly Taranets" (project 70126) has begun monitoring and search studies for sardines in Primorsky Krai. This was reported by the press service of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography.
The vessel will survey the waters of Peter the Great Bay, the Primorye coast, and adjacent areas of the Sea of Japan.
The research institute added that small accumulations of fish were found in Amur Bay, and commercial ones in Ussuri Bay. This refers to sardines 19–23 cm long.
Similar searches for sardines were conducted in June by the crew of NIS "Vladimir Safonov" (project 420). At that time, VNIRO specialists identified significant accumulations of fish in Ussuri Bay near the village of Podyapolskoye.
The medium fishing freezer trawler of project 70126 was built at the Zvezda shipyard (Bolshoy Kamen, Primorsky Krai) in 2003. The vessel was named "Valery Maslakov" and was operated in the Far East by fishing companies.
Characteristics of project 70126:
- Length — 42.2 m
- Width — 9.5 m
- Displacement — 987.8 t
- Speed — 10.5 knots
- Autonomy — 25 days
It was officially renamed in honor of the Soviet ichthyologist Anatoly Taranets in the autumn of 2025. The vessel, re-equipped for research tasks, joined the VNIRO fleet.
