Parents want to ban children from making donations and certain purchases using the digital ruble

More than half of respondents are interested in the ability to control teenagers' pocket money

More than half of Russian parents would like to use the digital ruble to control their children's spending. According to a Vyberu.ru study, 58% of respondents supported this possibility. Parents expect not only to monitor teenagers' purchases but also to independently determine what they are allowed to spend their pocket money on. Nearly 3,000 Russians participated in the study.

Most of all, parents are concerned about purchases of alcohol, cigarettes, and vapes — 34% of interested respondents would like to restrict these. Another 27% would prefer to prohibit children from spending money and making donations in online games. Thus, the new form of national currency may interest families not only as a means of payment but also as a control tool.

The list of desired prohibitions does not end there. Almost one in five parents (19%) would like to control their child's transfers to other people, 12% — purchases on marketplaces, and 8% — cash withdrawals at ATMs.

For now, parents use familiar banking tools: 42% check the transaction history on their child's card, 31% monitor purchase notifications, and 11% set spending limits. At the same time, almost half of families (46%) transfer pocket money to a teenager's personal card, 22% use special children's cards, and 32% still prefer cash.

However, it is not yet possible to restrict specific categories of purchases using the digital ruble. This refers only to parents' wishes, not to a function whose launch has already been announced by the Central Bank.
