SPB Exchange plans to launch cryptocurrency trading by the end of 2026, allowing Russians to buy and sell digital assets through a regulated platform. Currently, the company is creating its own settlement digital depository for asset accounting and transaction processing. Before launch, it must undergo the necessary procedures and be registered with the Bank of Russia.
The exact list of available cryptocurrencies has not yet been determined. When selecting, SPB Exchange will consider legislative requirements and investor interest. Russian regulation allows for organized trading of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and the stablecoin USDT. However, access to these assets will depend on the buyer's status.
Ordinary Russians will be able to purchase permitted cryptocurrencies up to 300,000 rubles per year per participant. This will require passing a special test. Qualified investors, after verification, will be able to conduct transactions without sum restrictions.
At the same time, the Moscow Exchange is preparing for launch, intending to open cryptocurrency trading as early as December 1. The platform began testing the system with transaction execution in early October. However, unlike SPB Exchange, MOEX does not intend to create its own depository and plans to use the infrastructure of partners.
The law on the legalization of cryptocurrency trading in Russia came into force on September 1, 2026. From October 6, the Central Bank began admitting the first digital depositories and crypto exchanges to operate, including VTB and Sberbank. Now, the country's largest exchange platforms are preparing to join the regulated market, although the exact timing of operations will depend on meeting regulatory requirements.
