BMP-2M with the Berezhok combat module effectively destroy aircraft-type drones. This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defence, noting the role of modernized weaponry and special crew training. One of the key elements of anti-aircraft firing is a 30-mm automatic cannon, for which high-explosive fragmentation ammunition with airburst is used.
When firing a conventional projectile, a direct hit on a small aerial object is a difficult task. An airburst munition works differently: the fire control system calculates the burst point on the trajectory, after which the projectile hits the target with shrapnel. This allows not to rely solely on a direct hit, although the result depends on the accuracy of the calculation, the target's position, and firing conditions.
The capabilities of the Berezhok are not limited to the cannon. The module is equipped with a combined sight with independent stabilization of the line of sight in two planes. Optical and thermal imaging channels, along with a laser rangefinder, help the crew detect and track targets, including at night and in difficult weather conditions.
The BMP-2M with the Berezhok retains the capabilities of an infantry fighting vehicle and receives an additional task - engaging aerial targets with standard artillery weapons. The practical effectiveness of such use depends not only on the cannon's capabilities, but also on the sighting system, ammunition, and crew skills.
