After attacks on data centers, Yandex agreed with competitors to transfer client services

VK Cloud, Selectel, and K2Cloud will help affected companies quickly restore the operation of their digital infrastructure

Yandex has reached an agreement with three major cloud providers — VK Cloud, Selectel, and K2Cloud — for the expedited transfer of data and services for clients affected by drone attacks on the company's data centers. Partners will help organizations host their infrastructure on other sites to reduce disruptions and quickly restore the availability of online services.

The reason for this was two serious incidents. On the night of October 7-8, drones attacked a Yandex data center in Sasovo, Ryazan Oblast, after which its operation completely ceased. On the morning of October 9, another company facility in Kaluga was hit, where part of the infrastructure also failed. According to Yandex, employees of both centers were not injured.

To accelerate recovery, Yandex Cloud and the cloud providers have allocated additional teams of specialists, simplified connection procedures, and offered clients flexible financial terms. This should allow companies to transfer systems without lengthy approvals and unnecessary bureaucracy.

For businesses, such disruptions can mean the unavailability of websites, applications, and other digital tools necessary for daily operations. Therefore, the priority will be to restore the infrastructure of affected clients on alternative capacities. The transfer times will depend on the specifics of the particular systems.

Yandex itself continues to assess the condition of the damaged equipment. The company admits that it is difficult to say when the operation of the affected data centers will be fully restored. Against this background, cooperation with other providers should help mitigate the consequences of failures for businesses and end-users.
