The outage affected the Yandex Cloud service: power supply was disrupted in the ru-central1-b availability zone. This could impact the operation of some cloud infrastructure and the creation of new virtual machines, Kubernetes clusters, and databases. The company has not yet disclosed the cause of the incident and does not link it to external influences.

The data center in Sasovo was launched in 2014. It occupies part of the former premises of the Sasta plant, which produces pipe-threading machines. To connect the servers to a single network, Yandex laid several optical communication lines between Sasovo and Moscow. The shutdown of one site shows how fragile the chain remains: even with a distributed architecture, a power outage in one zone impacts cloud clients.
