A test site for Russian microelectronics is planned to be created at NIIME

Sites are needed so that new components can be tested and debugged before being launched into mass production

Russia plans to create new sites where domestic microcircuits, materials, and components can be properly tested before they enter mass production. NIIME is discussing with the Ministry of Industry and Trade the creation of such a test site at the institute. In parallel, the department has already launched a project for two more similar sites, which are planned to be commissioned in 2028–2029. The plans of NIIME were announced by the institute's general director, Alexander Kravtsov.

The creation of two test sites was also mentioned by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Vasily Shpak at the Microelectronics-2026 forum. According to him, the locations for them have already been determined, and the project is planned to be completed in 2028–2029.

Such sites are needed so that new microelectronics solutions can be tested before they are introduced into mass production. This applies to equipment, materials, and components used in the creation of electronic products.

In September 2024, at the Microelectronics-2024 forum, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin stated that test sites and laboratories are planned to be created for the approbation of complex solutions. The head of the cabinet also spoke about working out the characteristics of closed technological chains with subsequent implementation in industry.

In 2025, it was reported that 54.5 billion rubles were allocated for the creation of two centers for the introduction of equipment and materials for microelectronics in Zelenograd. 50 billion rubles were to be directed to the Basic Center, and another 4.5 billion to the Startup Center based at NIU MIET. Separately, it was planned to create a microwave electronics center based at the Ioffe Physical-Technical Institute in St. Petersburg.
