Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree tightening the rules for exporting cash rubles to near abroad countries. Individuals will not be able to export more than 1 million rubles to EAEU states, as well as to Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
For legal entities and individual entrepreneurs, the rules are stricter: the export of cash rubles to these countries is limited regardless of the amount. In case of violation, companies and individual entrepreneurs may have their money fully confiscated, while individuals may have the amount exceeding the established limit confiscated.
An exception is provided for the export of cash through airports, the list of which will be determined by the government. In such a case, a bank statement will be required, confirming that the money was withdrawn from the account of the exporting person.
The restrictions do not apply to the transit transportation of cash by legal entities and to the export of rubles to support Russian diplomatic missions abroad.
Previously, for individuals exporting cash to EAEU countries, a significantly higher threshold applied – the equivalent of 100 thousand dollars. The new procedure significantly lowers the limit and simultaneously extends the restrictions to Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
