Large data centers for artificial intelligence are proposed to be located in cold regions. In the Far North, natural conditions can help more efficiently dissipate heat from server equipment, which heats up significantly during operation. This was stated by Gennady Krasnikov, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Data centers, or TsODs, are special facilities where servers for storing and processing information are located. When operating, the equipment heats up significantly, so it has to be constantly cooled.
According to Krasnikov, heat dissipation from servers has already become a separate issue. Various technological approaches are used to solve it, including new materials and designs. But there is another important point - electricity.

According to him, more and more electricity may go not to industry and utilities, but to large data centers. Russian specialists, Krasnikov said, are now looking at where there are free energy capacities and where the climate allows for more efficient heat dissipation from servers. The waste heat can then be directed to utility or other needs.
