At the Rosatom stand at the 70th IAEA General Conference, a concept for an infrastructure complex based on a floating nuclear power unit was presented. One of the scenarios envisages placing a data center next to PEB-100, which will receive its own electricity source.
The idea is to combine power supply, computing power, and digital services in one complex. Rosatom believes that such a data center will be able to operate without additional load on the external power grid, and seawater is proposed for liquid cooling of server equipment.
Floating power units are primarily considered for coastal and energy-deficient areas where the construction of a large nuclear power plant may be too complex or expensive. A separate session of the conference was dedicated to the prospects for serial implementation of such units and issues of their international regulation.
At the conference, Rosatom also presented developments in the field of Generation IV nuclear energy. Two-component nuclear energy, research reactors, and the possibilities of an international research center based on the MBIR reactor were discussed.
Another direction of the program was the training of specialists for the nuclear industry. Participants were shown approaches to training personnel for large and small nuclear power plants using full-scale and analytical simulators, as well as projects for training future specialists.
