All four car production plants have resumed operations in St. Petersburg after foreign brands left. This was stated by the city governor Alexander Beglov at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit to the Northern Capital.
According to Beglov, the revival of the automotive cluster contributed to the creation of additional jobs.
All four sites that had stopped production due to the departure of foreign companies are now operating again.
These include plants in Sestroretsk and Shushary with a total capacity of 300,000 cars per year. Beglov reminded that at the "Avtozavod St. Petersburg" site (formerly Nissan's site) Lada Iskra is produced. And in Shushary, executive class Senat cars are manufactured.
The governor noted that industrial growth helps St. Petersburg's economy remain stable and resilient. Currently, almost 470,000 people are employed in this sector, which is 26,000 more than in 2025.
He named the introduction of new technologies as a driver of the region's economic growth. For example, the country's largest laser growing center appeared at the base of SPbGMTU. Here, metal 3D printing technology is used. This production method accelerates product release times from 12 months to 2 months, Beglov concluded.
