Only 18 deepfake frauds have been registered in Russia in 2025 and the first half of 2026. This was reported to TASS by Sergey Kalinin, First Deputy Head of the Department for Combating Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
During the same period, a total of 478,831 frauds were recorded, so deepfakes account for a negligible share. The Ministry of Internal Affairs does not consider these figures significant.
At the same time, they admit that generative models allow for the creation of plausible audiovisual content, imitating the voices and faces of relatives, bank employees, civil servants, and public figures.
The topic was discussed at the "Dialogue on Fakes 4.0" forum in Moscow, which gathered more than 2,000 participants from 80 countries. The threat is taken seriously, although real statistics do not yet confirm its widespread nature. Perhaps deepfake frauds are simply more difficult to detect and classify, so some cases remain hidden.
