Russian metallurgical plants produced 5.5 million tons of steel in August 2026, which is 0.3% less than the figure for the same month in 2025. This is stated in the report by the World Steel Association (WSA).
According to the World Steel Association, China produced 74.6 million tons of steel in August, India — 14.8 million, the USA — 7.3 million, Japan — 6.7 million, Russia — 5.5 million tons. In the table of the largest producers, Russia ranks fifth; worldsteel compiles this ranking based on cumulative output from January to August.
The World Steel Association also compared production by regions. Russia, other CIS countries, and Ukraine produced 6.3 million tons of steel in August — 5.6% less than a year earlier.
Asia and Oceania accounted for 106.7 million tons (-1.4%). EU countries produced 8.9 million tons (-1%). In North America, steel production increased by 3.9%, to 9.4 million tons. In total, the countries that submitted data to the World Steel Association produced 144.2 million tons of crude steel.
