Five overhead cranes in the pickling section of steel wire shop No. 1 at the Severstal-metiz plant (Cherepovets) have been converted to remote control. This was reported by the press service of PAO Severstal.
The company is implementing the "Unmanned Technologies" program to reduce production risks, the company explained.
This solution will increase the safety level of our employees and reduce production risks. Now operators can control cranes remotely, being outside the zone of aggressive environments and hazardous production factors.
According to Kovryakov, the implementation of remote control will increase the efficiency of the production process. In addition, it will improve working conditions for employees, he added.
The crane operator works sitting in a high-tech manipulator chair, where monitors are displayed. Thanks to high-resolution video cameras, the worker sees the situation near the lifting device.
The software and hardware complex is equipped with a safety system that will alert about the appearance of a person in the crane's working area. All employees perform manipulations from a single control room.
