"Yandex" has taken a step towards the familiar Microsoft Office. "Yandex 360" has launched a separate "Documents" application for Windows, macOS, and Linux, which allows you to create and edit text files and spreadsheets directly on your computer. A constant internet connection is not required for work.
The desktop version transfers the main features of the web service to the computer, the company explained. Users can create, open, edit, and save documents, change fonts, and format paragraphs. In spreadsheets, calculations using arithmetic functions are available. Popular DOCX and XLSX formats are supported.
For now, the program is mainly designed for individual work. Collaborative file editing and AI-based tools remain only in the web version of "Documents".
In the future, "Yandex 360" plans to add synchronization of the application with "Yandex Disk". Then local files can be linked to cloud storage.
The application can already be downloaded from the "Yandex 360" website. A "Yandex ID" is required for login. After authorization, you can create a new document or spreadsheet or continue working with recently opened files.
Currently, desktop "Documents" are available as part of personal "Yandex 360" plans. Later, the company plans to release a version for corporate users.
What replaces Microsoft Office in Russia
There are already several domestic alternatives to Microsoft Office on the Russian market. In addition to "Yandex Documents", these are "MoyOfis" from "Novye Oblachnye Tekhnologii" and "R7-Ofis". All solutions work with familiar formats, and their products are listed in the register of domestic software.
"MoyOfis" includes document, spreadsheet, and presentation editors, as well as solutions for collaboration and cloud storage. And "R7-Ofis" offers document, spreadsheet, and presentation editors for computers and for working through a browser.
