The share of domestic components in Irteya's 5G-enabled base stations currently does not exceed 5%, and by 2028, it is planned to increase it to 30%. Dmitry Lakontsev, the CEO of the manufacturer, told Kommersant about this.
Single RAN stations combine support for GSM, LTE, and 5G with Open RAN interfaces on a single platform, and they are already operating in operator networks. Laboratory prototypes of platform 2.0 are assembled with components from more than ten Russian suppliers: in 2027, Irteya plans to proceed with intensive testing, and in early 2028, to launch production.
For 2026, the company expects to ship about 3,000 base stations to operators, with over 2,000 already operating in MTS and VimpelCom commercial networks. The first hundreds of 5G stations for commercial networks are planned for delivery in the first quarter of 2027.
Replacing a component in a station is more complex than a part in a Lego constructor: elements operate as part of a complex radio and computing system, and after replacement, their interaction needs to be re-tuned. Therefore, Irteya incorporates Russian components directly into the design of the new platform.
On September 11, all four largest operators simultaneously launched 5G in 16 cities, and the SCRF allocated 90 MHz each in the 4.63–4.99 GHz band. Inessa Galaktionova, CEO of MTS, estimates the market capacity at 60,000 base stations by 2035.
