Fraudsters have started calling elderly people and offering a supposedly state program that will help quickly increase or even "double" their pension savings. Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, spoke about the new scheme.
To sound more convincing, criminals may use real names of existing programs. The person is informed that they are entitled to co-financing, but to participate, they need to urgently confirm their data, transfer funds, or perform an action in a banking application.
Then the goal changes: fraudsters try to obtain personal data, details, and SMS codes. Under the guise of "pension processing," the person is effectively led to transfer control over their money.
The main alarming sign is an unexpected call demanding urgent confirmation or processing of something. In such a situation, it is better to end the conversation and contact the organization independently using the official number.
