CIAM reveals RPD-150T parameters: Russian 150 hp engine prepared to replace Rotax

The power plant is designed for light aircraft or UAVs and has a service life of over 3000 hours

CIAM has revealed the parameters of the new RPD-150T rotary piston engine with a power of 150 hp, which is being prepared to replace foreign Rotax engines on light aircraft and UAVs, according to "Tekhnosfera Rossiya" publication.

The 87 kg engine received turbocharging and a FADEC digital control system, and its declared service life exceeds 3000 hours.

The RPD-150T is being developed as a two-section unit and is part of a new line of Russian rotary piston engines with power ranging from 50 to 500 hp. CIAM has already prepared design documentation for production.

In terms of characteristics, the RPD-150T should occupy the niche of Rotax 912, 914, and 915 engines, which are used in light aviation and unmanned aerial vehicles. With a mass of 87 kg, the Russian unit combines 150 hp of power with turbocharging, a dry sump, and redundancy of critical systems.

Rotax engines have long been used in the Russian light aviation segment, including light aircraft, ultralight aircraft, and autogyros. Their widespread use is due to a successful combination of compact size, relatively low weight, and sufficient power for this class.
