NERZ increases capacity for 2ES10 power units: new stand combines testing of two engine series

Previously, the section only worked with 2ES6 equipment; now, tests also cover Granit electric locomotives

Novosibirsk Electric Locomotive Repair Plant (NERZ) has expanded its capabilities for repairing 2ES10 Granit electric locomotives: a test stand has appeared at the control and testing station for checking asynchronous auxiliary machines of two series at once – 2ES6 and 2ES10. Previously, this section only worked with 2ES6 equipment, and now the plant has the opportunity to conduct a full range of tests of Granit components.

A key element of the new competence was the control of asynchronous electric motors that drive cooling fans for traction motors and compressor equipment. This is especially important for the 2ES10: the electric locomotive uses an asynchronous traction drive, and its two-section version develops 8400 kW of continuous power.

The new stand checks the insulation resistance of the windings, their electrical strength, and vibration level. This allows assessing the engine's condition after repair not only by the results of disassembly and restoration of parts, but also by actual electrical and mechanical operating parameters.

For NERZ itself, this is a continuation of a large re-equipment program: the enterprise specializes in the repair of 2ES6 and 2ES10, and its production facilities are designed to repair up to 360 locomotive sections per year. In 2024, Sinara indicated that more than 1500 locomotives of these two series were operated on the RZD network.
