The Moscow Metro is planned to be extended in seven directions into Moscow Oblast. New stations are expected to appear in Mytishchi, Krasnogorsk, Khimki, Odintsovo, Balashikha, and in two directions in Leninsky District. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin announced these plans during a visit to the Metrovagonmash plant in Mytishchi.
According to Sobyanin, the Moscow region represents a single agglomeration with a population of about 20 million people. The extension of the metro beyond the capital has long been discussed with Moscow Oblast Governor Andrey Vorobyov.
Today, we are closer to its real implementation.
This refers to urban districts around Moscow that are closely linked to the capital economically and socially. As the mayor noted, these territories account for approximately one-third of the Moscow Oblast population.
Plans for metro development in Moscow Oblast emerged against the backdrop of the expansion of Moscow's transport network. On September 5, City Day, Vladimir Putin and Sergey Sobyanin, via video link, launched the first section of the Rublyovo-Arkhangelskaya metro line and the Serp i Molot urban railway station.
Traffic on the new line was opened from Delovoy Tsentr station to Bulvar Generala Karbysheva. The Serp i Molot urban railway station began operations on the fourth Moscow Central Diameter – MCD-4.
