Margarita Semyonova, a resident of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, has developed a protective installation for oil and gas equipment. The engineer's solution will simultaneously reduce the risk of tank damage by drones and the consequences of possible depressurization.
The system is based on a protective casing with a rotating mechanism. It houses a frame with a three-layer anti-drone net, which should prevent a direct hit by a drone on the protected equipment.
I had the idea to create a comprehensive solution for protecting horizontal separators; I took into account not only internal processes but also possible UAV attacks.
The layers are made of different materials. The bottom layer is made of steel, the middle layer of reinforced polyamide with a fire-resistant coating, and the top layer of monofilament thread. This combination should create several sequential barriers against UAVs.
Semyonova did not forget to include an emergency drainage system in the design. If the equipment is still damaged and depressurization occurs, it should ensure the diversion of the substances contained within.
Russian President Vladimir Putin recently noted that the protection of oil refineries from UAVs has been brought to a new level.
