Roscosmos spoke about three satellite systems that provide monitoring of the Northern Sea Route and the Arctic regions of Russia. These are the "Arktika-M", "Kondor-FKA" and "Meteor-M" spacecraft.
Russia aims to make shipping along the Northern Sea Route year-round. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the WEF-2026. Currently, Roscosmos monitors the ice situation along the entire NSR route and studies the Arctic regions of Russia.
One of the key roles here is played by the "Arktika-M" system. Its satellites are capable of surveying the waters of the Northern Sea Route. According to Roscosmos, no other system in the world has such a capability.
The "Kondor-FKA" radar system is also responsible for surface observation. Its main difference is that monitoring can be carried out around the clock and regardless of weather conditions.
Another system is "Meteor-M". It is designed for remote sensing of the Earth and promptly transmits hydrometeorological information to ground services.
After connecting to the international COSPAS-SARSAT rescue system, "Meteor-M" helps detect people in distress at sea, in the air, or on land, Roscosmos said.
