Rosatom's First Dredging Vessel to Begin Operations in Ob Bay in Coming Days

Specialists of "Hydrographic Enterprise" annually perform depth measurements

Rosatom must create its own dredging fleet to service the Northern Sea Route (NSR). Currently, the first dredging vessel, owned by FSUE "Hydrographic Enterprise" (part of Rosatom), is completing its transit along the NSR and will begin operations in Ob Bay (Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug) in the coming days. This was stated by Vladimir Panov, Rosatom's special representative for Arctic development.

Today, we have come to a solution that seems forced and the only one – we need to create our own dredging fleet.
Vladimir Panov, Rosatom's special representative for Arctic development

Panov emphasized that depth data on the NSR is critically important for safe navigation. The Arctic route is not a road that is laid once and operated for years, he added.

The route can change depending on the ice conditions. That is why it is necessary to know whether a vessel with a certain draft can pass through a specific path. To provide this information, specialists of FSUE "Hydrographic Enterprise" conduct measurements of more than 40 thousand linear kilometers annually, Panov concluded.
