Russia's largest gold mining company, Polyus, has commissioned the 110 kV "Yuzhny Kust" substation and a 34.5 km power transmission line for the southern group of deposits in the Kuranakh ore field in the Aldan district of Yakutia. The launch took place at the Eastern Economic Forum.
A key engineering detail is two 50-meter high supports installed to cross existing power lines. This allowed consumers in the Aldan district to remain connected. In total, over 850 tons of metal structures were assembled and about 240 km of cable lines were laid. The substation was assembled in record time thanks to modular factory-ready solutions. Equipment was supplied by enterprises from Voronezh, Cheboksary, and Yekaterinburg.
According to Polyus Vice President Sergey Zhuravlev, the new infrastructure will lay the foundation for creating one of the world's largest gold mining centers using heap leaching. This will also strengthen the energy base of the industry in Yakutia. The exclusive use of Russian materials and equipment reduces dependence on external supplies.
