St. Petersburg Mining University of Empress Catherine II has received a patent for a mobile modular complex for research and development of territories in difficult natural and climatic conditions. The development is intended for creating mobile research bases in the Arctic and other hard-to-reach regions.
The complex consists of five modules: one central and four peripheral, connected by covered passages. Each module is a platform on a walking propulsion system, on which a dome with equipment and docking gates is installed.
The walking propulsion system works as follows: cables and winches move support frames with telescopic legs, and the control system ensures that the platform remains horizontal on any uneven surface. All five modules move as a single unit.
As noted in the patent description, the solution allows research to be conducted in extreme conditions. The complex can be used for geological surveys, environmental monitoring, and the construction of temporary bases in areas with limited transport accessibility.
