The Indian share in new Su-30MKI fighters has reached 62.6%, which significantly changes the approach to the production of aircraft of Russian origin. This figure is fixed for a new batch of 12 aircraft, which Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will manufacture for the Indian Air Force.
The contract for the production of these aircraft was signed by the Indian Ministry of Defence and HAL in December 2024. Its cost was about 13,500 crore rupees (1 Indian crore = 10 million rupees). The aircraft will be assembled at the HAL plant in Nashik, and the increase in the share of Indian components is due to the transfer of production of a number of Russian technologies for the Su-30MKI to local enterprises.
The figure of 62.6% means that more than half of the cost of components for the new batch of aircraft comes from Indian production.
The Su-30MKI remains one of the main fighters of the Indian Air Force, and HAL continues to develop its production within the country.
