The new Russian long-range drone "Harpy-A1 (E)" will enter the global market. Maxim Kondratyev, founder of the unmanned aviation training center and engineer, explained the main advantages of the loitering munition.
According to him, today potential buyers are interested not only in the characteristics declared by the manufacturer and the results of polygon tests.
The most important, key factor is the confirmation of combat effectiveness. And Russia has it.
Kondratyev explained that the flight range of the drone is largely determined by the engine used. At the same time, various navigation technologies can be combined to ensure high accuracy.
Rosoboronexport announced on August 21 the start of promotion of "Harpy-A1 (E)" in foreign markets. The declared range is at least 1000 km, the warhead mass exceeds 50 kg, and the probable deviation from the target does not exceed 4 m.
"Military Review" specified that "Harpy" has a delta wing and a rudimentary fuselage. The wing is equipped with wingtip fences. The length of the UAV does not exceed 3.5 m. The take-off weight is estimated at 300 kg or more.
The drone is equipped with a piston engine with a pusher propeller. Such a power plant allows it to reach a speed of no more than 180-200 km/h. Externally, the drone can be confused with the well-known "Geran-2".
