Telegram is developing a new way to connect to the messenger – WEB Proxy. Components of the technology have already been found in Telegram Desktop, although there has been no official announcement yet.
The idea is to transmit MTProxy traffic within a regular secure HTTPS or WebSocket web connection. For the network, such a connection will look almost like ordinary web traffic, which will potentially complicate its recognition and blocking.
Several Telegram connections will be able to go through one common HTTPS channel. On the server side, a special relay will split the stream back and transmit it to the standard MTProxy, without decrypting the content of the correspondence.
That is, Telegram is not abandoning MTProxy, but adding a new transport layer to it. While WEB Proxy is under development, the timing of the feature's appearance in the stable version is unknown.
