Wildberries and Ozon to enable digital ruble payments from September 1

From September 1, Wildberries and Ozon will introduce another payment method – digital rubles. Representatives of the marketplaces stated that both services are preparing to accept the new form of Russian currency.

According to Alla Bakina, Director of the National Payment System Department of the Bank of Russia, all systemically important banks in Russia will be ready for its widespread implementation from September 1.

From this date, users will be able to open digital wallets through banking applications. A button with the corresponding logo will appear on the main page.

In addition, the Bank of Russia has already created the possibility to pay with digital rubles online. This will allow marketplaces to accept such payments for goods.

Ozon announced that from September 1, they will start accepting digital rubles in test mode – alongside other payment methods. Then, the option will gradually become available to all customers.

Wildberries stated that the company operates in accordance with the requirements of the Bank of Russia and current regulations.

By law, from September, large retail chains with annual revenues exceeding 120 million rubles must start accepting digital rubles. Gradually, this obligation will extend to smaller sellers.
