An-124s can fly forever, even though Russia cannot build new Ruslans

The only female An-124 navigator explained why the giant transport aircraft still has no replacement

The An-124 can outlive its own production and fly almost indefinitely, provided it is properly maintained. This opinion was expressed by the only female navigator, Elena Spiridonova.

According to her, the "Ruslan" remains a unique aircraft in all respects.

These aircraft can fly forever if they are properly looked after. I see no replacement for this aircraft. It was one of a kind when it was created and remains so to this day.

Resuming the production of heavy An-124 "Ruslan" transport aircraft in Russia is impossible due to the loss of competencies, said aircraft commander Nikolai Yatsenko.

According to him, a total of 56 "Ruslans" were built, and the actual number of flying aircraft regularly changes.

Aviation expert Oleg Panteleev explained to "Pervy Tekhnichesky" that resuming the production of 50-year-old aircraft is a meaningless endeavor.
