The Russian government has canceled checks of weight and dimensional parameters for fuel trucks carrying gasoline, diesel fuel, and aviation kerosene until December 31, 2026. The resolution was published on the official portal of legal acts and is effective from the date of signing.
The decision relieves fuel carriers of a long-standing problem. Bulk cargo cannot be fixed in a tank: when accelerating, the liquid shifts backward, when braking – forward, and on uneven roads, it "sloshes" especially strongly. Automatic weight and dimension control points at such moments record an overload of individual axles, for which the law provides for a fine of up to 600 thousand rubles. Experts interviewed by "Izvestia" noted that partitions inside the tanks are not able to fully resist the laws of physics.
Experts also warn that the relaxation will not increase physical supplies: a standard 30-cubic-meter tank cannot be filled "to the brim," and fuel trucks traditionally travel either full or empty. Nevertheless, the measure removes an administrative barrier in the midst of the fuel crisis. To stabilize the market, according to industry experts, other steps are needed – for example, postponing the transition to electronic document management GosLog from September 1, since mobile communication is often absent near oil depots, and drivers physically cannot sign digital waybills.
Context of the fuel crisis
The decision to cancel weight and dimension control for fuel trucks was made against the backdrop of the ongoing fuel crisis in Russia. "Pervy Tekhnichesky" has already reported on the first signs of market stabilization: after disruptions that affected dozens of regions since late May, authorities introduced a temporary ban on oil product exports and adjusted refinery repair plans.
It is noteworthy that fines for violations of weight and dimension control, from which fuel carriers are now exempted, were significantly tightened quite recently: since July 2025, the penalty for passing through an automatic control point with violations is exactly 600 thousand rubles – the very amount mentioned in the current resolution.
