In the future, it will be possible to find a place in a cemetery and arrange related services through "Gosuslugi". By December 1, 2026, digital services for searching and purchasing burial plots are planned to be launched in 21 regions. To create the system, data on 14,000 cemeteries are intended to be uploaded to the National Spatial Data System (NSPD). 295.5 million rubles are planned to be allocated for the project, writes "Kommersant".
The new service should help citizens receive services electronically and simplify the process of arranging burials. The system should also increase the transparency of plot accounting and the funeral services market.
According to the Ministry of Digital Development, in 2026, the "Burial Management" solution is already operating in six regions, and active implementation is underway in another 15 constituent entities. The ministry believes that expanding the project will allow for the creation of unified directories, standardization of work, and gradual scaling of digital services.
Currently, there are over 73,000 cemeteries and 33 crematoria in Russia. Earlier it was reported that in the first half of 2026, the number of registrations of companies operating in the funeral services sector increased by 22.5% year-on-year — to 995.
Industry representatives explained that today many procedures related to burials still take place in person and with paper documents. According to Alexey Suloev, president of the Association of Crematoria of Russia, the digital format can reduce processing times and the number of visits to institutions, as well as provide families with a clear sequence of actions.
In addition, unified registers of cemeteries, burial plots, permits, and service providers can make processes more controllable. When it is clear who, when, and on what grounds allocated a plot or issued a permit, there will be fewer opportunities for unofficial plot sales, imposition of intermediaries, and leakage of death information to so-called "black agents".
However, market participants also point out possible difficulties. Ilya Boltunov, head of the funeral home "Zhuravli", noted that after receiving a digital service, a person may still need to visit the cemetery administration to verify documents. In such a case, part of the effect of digitalization may be lost.
The main difficulty of the project is related not only to technology but also to work organization, believes Nikolay Potapov, business development director of the "Custom Development" department at "Reksoft". According to him, the greatest efforts will be required to collect archival data on site, verify it, and bring it to a single format. It will also be necessary to establish interaction between departments, the NSPD, and contractors working with the key systems of the service.
