The new Russian S-71M "Monochrome" missile was found to contain an Nvidia Jetson Orin computer module and a camera, which can be used for image processing and autonomous target guidance.
The S-71M "Monochrome" missile belongs to the S-71 family of aircraft weapons and is designed to be launched from the Su-57 fighter. It received a warhead weighing about 250 kg, develops a speed of about 500–600 km/h, and is capable of covering up to 350–400 km.
The onboard Nvidia Jetson module is a compact computing device designed for tasks related to computer vision and machine learning. In conjunction with a camera, this module is capable of processing images directly onboard, without transmitting the video stream to an external computer.
That is why the appearance of Jetson as part of the S-71M may indicate the use of machine vision algorithms for the terminal guidance phase. However, the installed computing platform itself does not yet prove the presence of full-fledged artificial intelligence: it only provides the hardware basis for running the corresponding algorithms.
