The "Antidronin" anti-drone munition version for the 12.7×108 mm cartridge has begun initial testing. This was reported by military observer Evgeny Damantsev, noting the prospects of using this design with heavy machine guns against FPV drones.
"Antidronin" is a special capsule that is installed instead of a standard bullet and forms a group of damaging elements when fired. Previously, similar versions were created for several common small arms calibers.
According to Damantsev, the transition to a larger caliber could increase the capabilities of this system when dealing with small-sized UAVs. He attributes this primarily to the greater mass of the munition and the potential to place more damaging elements in the capsule.
However, the ballistic advantages claimed by the author of the publication cannot yet be considered confirmed by test results. There is no independent data in open sources on the accuracy, range, and actual effectiveness of the 12.7×108 mm version specifically. Therefore, it is premature to talk about a ready-made serial means of combating UAVs.
The "Antidronin" project itself has already received several versions for small arms. The developers' materials indicate calibers 5.45×39, 7.62×39, 7.62×54, and 12.7×108 mm.
Damantsev believes that the heavy-caliber version could become the basis for further development of specialized close-range UAV countermeasures. In particular, he allows for the use of such munitions as part of machine gun mounts and specialized turrets as mobile air defense systems.
