The VK team has combined anonymized user action data from various services into a single AI model. Based on this data, the system creates a neuroprofile – a representation of a person's interests, which is used to personalize recommendations. This technology is already being used in "VK Video", "VK Clips", and "VKontakte".
The model is built on a transformer architecture and takes into account the sequence of user actions: views, likes, comments, reposts, and content skips. The analysis considers the service, material type, author, time, and order of events to distinguish stable interests from random actions and to quickly adapt to changes in preferences.
According to VK, after the implementation of the neuroprofile, content viewing time in "VK Clips" increased by 5.5%. Neural network ranking, which determines the order in which materials are displayed in the feed, also operates based on it. During tests, users shared content 15% more often, opened it full screen 10% more often, and liked it 5% more often.
The technology is part of VK's Discovery platform, launched in 2025. It combines the infrastructure of the company's recommendation, search, and advertising systems and allows new algorithms to be distributed across services.
VK and Artificial Intelligence: What is Already Known
The new neuroprofile is not the first time VK has applied user behavior analysis across the entire ecosystem. In October 2024, we wrote about the launch of an internal AI system for protection against DDoS attacks and malicious bots: models were trained in the same way on anonymized data about user behavior from various services – "VK Video", OK, "Dzen", and others – to distinguish legitimate activity from malicious traffic.
In parallel, the company is building technical infrastructure for working with big data: in September 2024, VK Tech introduced VK Data Platform – a platform with tools for storing, processing, and building machine learning models. The Discovery platform, of which the neuroprofile is a part, fits into the same logic.
We wrote about the results of "VK Video" itself in December 2025: the service's monthly audience reached 77 million users, and the average daily viewing time increased by 40% – with such numbers, personalized recommendations were a natural fit.
