In the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug-Yugra fields, the technology of repeated multi-stage hydraulic fracturing has begun to be widely applied, which increases well productivity by an average of 2.5 times and helps to involve additional oil reserves in development. The project was implemented by Gazpromneft-Khantos.
Most of Russia's oil reserves are hard-to-recover, so hydraulic fracturing is widely used to maintain production in mature fields. Over time, previously created channels lose efficiency, which leads to a drop in well flow rates.
The new Russian technology allows restoring oil inflow without building new infrastructure and drilling additional wells. A special complex is lowered into the operating well, which supplies fluid under high pressure and performs repeated hydraulic fracturing in selected intervals of the formation. This ensures the formation of new fractures and the connection of previously untouched areas of the deposit to development.
The company noted that a significant part of Gazpromneft-Khantos' fields are at late stages of development. Repeated multi-stage hydraulic fracturing will restore the productivity of the well stock, increase oil recovery rates, and accelerate the achievement of design operating parameters for the fields.
