The Belarusian BM-21B "BelGrad" multiple launch rocket system has received a comprehensive upgrade, increasing its combat capabilities and autonomy. The vehicle, based on the Soviet "Grad," was modernized by specialists from OAO "2566 Zavod po remontu radioelektronnogo vooruzheniya".
During the modernization, the MLRS received an improved control system, the ability to quickly receive targeting data, an increased onboard ammunition supply, and updated communication equipment. The number of transported rockets increased to 2.5 ammunition loads, which reduced dependence on transport-loading vehicles.
One of the key changes was the increased mobility of the complex. The vehicle's range was extended to 1000 kilometers, and the preparation time for a repeated salvo after reloading was reduced to approximately seven minutes. At the same time, the combat crew was reduced to four people.
The project was based on a deep modernization of the BM-21 "Grad" family, which in the Belarusian version previously received the new designation "BelGrad." The work included replacing the base chassis, updating control systems, and improving the operational characteristics of the complex.
The new BM-21B "BelGrad" was presented as a development of previous modernization variants and became an attempt to preserve the potential of the time-tested 122-mm rocket system through modern technologies.
Earlier, OAO "2566 Zavod po remontu radioelektronnogo vooruzheniya" conducted a deep modernization of the transport-loading vehicle for the "Osa" anti-aircraft missile system.
In parallel, Belarus is also developing software for MLRS: the automated control and guidance system for "Grad" and "Uragan" developed by OAO "VOLATAVTO" passed research tests and allows opening fire almost immediately after marching.
