Auto blogger Vladimir Vorobyov revealed the possible reason for AvtoVAZ discontinuing the VAZ-2107, even though demand for this model in the secondary market remains one of the highest. According to the Avtostat agency, over 106 thousand re-registrations of these cars were recorded in the first 9 months of 2025 alone.
The official reason is the technical obsolescence of the design and non-compliance with environmental standards: the "seven's" engine in 2010 produced 74–82 hp, and emissions barely met Euro-1 and Euro-2 standards. Since 2008, it has been forbidden to produce cars below Euro-3 class in Russia. However, according to Vorobyov, ecology is not the main reason. AvtoVAZ could have upgraded the engine to Euro-4, as they did with the "Samaras". Installing an injector, catalytic converter, and updating the ECU did not require large expenditures, and the cost remained low.
The real reason, according to the auto blogger, is the change of ownership. In 2012, control over AvtoVAZ passed to the Renault-Nissan alliance. The new owners abandoned outdated models in favor of more modern Renault Logan, Sandero, Duster, and Nissan Almera, and the "seven's" assembly lines were dismantled and sold abroad, Vorobyov claims. To soften the transition, the company launched the development of Lada Vesta, Iskra, and XRay, but only Vesta became a commercial success among them. Despite this, the "seven" remains a legend in the secondary market.
