Public organizations will begin collecting information about illegal mining and transmitting it to law enforcement. This will be handled by the Center for Legal Support for Victims of Remote Fraud, Illegal Financial Operations, and Illegal Gambling.
Evgeny Masharov, head of the center, stated that this refers to individuals and companies that secretly connect to power capacities for cryptocurrency mining. In his opinion, such farms create a serious load on networks and threaten the energy security of regions.
Information about suspicious objects is planned to be sent to law enforcement agencies in the manner prescribed by law. Masharov called for more active involvement of expert institutions and public associations in identifying illegal connections.
He also supported the ban on mining in Moscow, the Moscow region, and certain districts of the Kursk region. The restrictions will come into effect on August 15, 2026, and will remain until the end of 2032.
Similar measures have already been introduced in a number of regions of the North Caucasus, Siberia, and in new territories. The authorities explain the restrictions by the shortage of electricity and the need to reduce the load on local networks.
