The Russian army has received another batch of modernized BMP-3s, and over the past year and a half, the number of confirmed deliveries of these combat vehicles has reached at least five. The production of equipment continues to be provided by Kurganmashzavod, which maintains high production rates amid growing demand for armored vehicles. This is reported by the publication "Tekhnosfera Rossii".
Another delivery of BMP-3s took place on July 27, 2026. The vehicles belong to an updated version and have received a number of improvements aimed at increasing survivability and operational efficiency.
In particular, the new BMP-3s are equipped with enhanced bottom protection against explosions, additional anti-fragmentation resistance for the front and rear parts of the hull, as well as modernized electronic warfare systems.
This is already the second confirmed delivery of these vehicles in 2026. The first batch was delivered in January, with the shipment volume being approximately 40% higher than planned. In 2025, similar deliveries occurred at least three times – in spring, autumn, and at the end of the year.
In total, from 2025 to mid-2026, Russian troops received at least five batches of new and modernized BMP-3s.
The production rates of these vehicles remain one of the most discussed topics in open sources. According to a number of foreign analysts, the enterprise's capacities allow for the production of dozens of new vehicles monthly. Some estimates indicated figures of up to 50–60 BMP-3s per month, which corresponds to a potential annual output of over 500 units.
For comparison, in 2020–2021, the production volumes of BMP-3s under state contracts were significantly lower, amounting to about 168 vehicles over two years. At the same time, the current version of the BMP-3 is noticeably more complex than early Soviet models: the vehicle combines a 100-mm gun, a 30-mm automatic cannon, modern surveillance equipment, and additional protection systems.
Estimates of the number of BMP-3s in the Russian army vary due to the lack of official statistics. Foreign sources cite values ranging from several hundred to approximately 650–700 vehicles, taking into account recent deliveries and the modernization of the existing fleet.
However, the exact production volumes and the current number of vehicles in active units are not disclosed. Open data only allows us to speak of continued serial production and regular deliveries of new batches.
