The KAMAZ-1010 harvester, which Rostec figuratively compared to a machine that "bypasses" gravity, is undergoing field tests in Karelia. This effect is provided not by engine power, but by the kinematics of the articulated frame, thanks to which the 22-ton machine maintains contact of all eight wheels with the ground even on difficult forest terrain.
The design consists of two sections connected by a movable vertical hinge. This scheme allows the machine to adapt to uneven terrain, maintaining constant contact of all eight wheels with the surface.
The mechanism prevents diagonal wheel lift – a situation in which one or more wheels lose traction when driving over stumps, stones, or deep ruts. Due to this, the harvester maintains traction even on difficult sections of forest roads.
An additional advantage of this solution was the reduction of torsional loads arising on the frame and chassis elements when driving over rough terrain. This should positively affect the reliability of the machine and the efficiency of operation in harsh operating conditions.
Tests in Karelia are ongoing and should confirm the characteristics of the new logging equipment in real conditions.
