Tests of a new measurement point have been completed on Sakhalin, which will become part of Russia's space launch control system. The "Sakhalin" complex will support launches from the Vostochny Cosmodrome. Specialists checked antenna systems, the technological module, and equipment for data collection and processing.
New complex will monitor launches from Vostochny
The "Sakhalin" measurement point is being established in the city of Poronaysk, Sakhalin Oblast. Its main task is to collect data during launches from the Vostochny Cosmodrome, receive information from spacecraft, and provide capabilities for their control.
The complex will become an additional element of the Russian ground-based space infrastructure and will help obtain data on equipment operation during flights.
Modern antennas for space communication installed at the facility
Two three-band antenna systems TNA-12M and an AS-M antenna system are located at the point. The equipment has passed tests and confirmed its readiness for operation under increased loads.
As Konstantin Emelyanov, General Director of OKB MEI, noted, the technologies used allow receiving telemetry information from various spacecraft and remotely controlling the antenna from any measurement point in Russia.
One module instead of an entire complex of equipment
A feature of the new facility is a unified technological module, created on the "all-in-one" principle. Inside it are software and hardware complexes and equipment for supporting launches, controlling the movement of upper stages, and processing incoming information.
The system can also organize communication sessions and receive data from satellites of various classes, the International Space Station, and the promising Russian Orbital Station.
The measurement point will increase the continuity of radio visibility zones of the Eastern Command and Measurement Point and improve control over space missions.
This year, the Vostochny Cosmodrome celebrates 10 years since its commissioning.
