Specialists from the Volzhsky Polytechnic Institute, together with colleagues from Novosibirsk State University (NSU), have developed a rubber capable of absorbing heat when operating in extreme high-temperature conditions. The material contains multi-walled carbon nanotubes and functionally active components.
As explained by the project's scientific director Viktor Kablov, the task of the new rubber is to prevent structures from heating up. When exposed to high temperatures, the material absorbs heat, which is especially relevant for oil production, where operating conditions are becoming increasingly complex.
Previously, the team of Volgograd scientists developed a fire-retardant intumescent material that can withstand temperatures up to 2500°C. The new rubber can work together with this material, enhancing its effectiveness. Areas of application include the chemical industry, aircraft manufacturing, and space production. Industrial production of the material is planned to begin in the near future after testing is completed.
