Sber confirmed that by December 1, 2026, it will launch a digital depository and infrastructure for cryptocurrency trading. Previously, the bank spoke of such a service as a plan dependent on a new law. Now the document has been adopted, and preparation is moving into a practical stage.
The bank welcomed the adoption of the law on cryptocurrency market regulation, calling it an important step for the formation of the crypto-asset market in Russia. Sber believes that the new rules should strike a balance between state interests, investor protection, and industry development.
The depository will become a kind of register for crypto-assets: it will record client rights and ensure the execution of operations. It is through such an infrastructure that the bank will be able to work with digital coins in a regulated field.
"Sber plans to implement the necessary infrastructure for cryptocurrency trading and launch a digital depository by December 1, 2026."
However, one law is not enough for a full-fledged start of the market. The regulator still needs to prescribe rules for depository and accounting, as well as the procedure for licensing intermediaries.
Sber itself has been preparing to enter the crypto market for several years. The bank already offers qualified investors products linked to Bitcoin and Ethereum, and in December 2025, it tested lending against cryptocurrency collateral.
